    Documentation/Cite Check

    Cite Check

Check that each cited authority exists and supports the point made.

    Plan: Counsel and higher

    How to use it

    1. Open a document and choose Cite check.
    2. Review the quoted credit estimate for the citations found.
    3. Accept the estimate to start the check.
    4. Read the result for each citation, then open the source to confirm.

    A worked example

A brief cites three authorities. One cannot be found.

    CitationFoundSupports the point
    Case A v. Case BFoundSupported
    Statute section 12FoundPartly
Case C v. Case DNot foundNot checked

    What each status means

    Queued
Your check is waiting to start.
    Processing
Citations are being looked up and compared.
    Completed
    Results are ready to read.
    Failed
The check stopped. Credits for the failed run are returned.
Found / Not found / Ambiguous
Whether the authority could be matched to a source.
Supported / Partly / Not supported
How well the source backs the point made.

    Limits

    • Needs a Counsel plan or higher.
    • Credits are quoted before anything runs. Nothing is charged until you accept.
    • Only some citation formats are recognised. Unrecognised ones are not checked.
    • A match means the source was located, not that the argument is sound.

Where a source comes from an official publisher, its licence and attribution terms are shown with the result.
